A team of six ACAvengers volunteers showed up bright and early at Seattle's Key Arena on Saturday, Oct. 24th to help out at the annual Seattle/King County Clinic. After a quick powwow with Social Workers and In-Person Assisters also volunteering at the event, our team was able to engage with clients in various areas of the clinic for maximum impact. From the registration area to the dental beds, ACAvengers students provided screening, education, and warm handoffs to uninsured and underinsured clients from across the state. We spoke to over 200 clients and provided services to over 50, including multiple cases where clients were able to be connected with an IPA to enroll in a healthcare plan that same day. In addition, we worked with many clients to help identify primary care and dental providers closer to home who would accept their Apple Health plans or provide affordable services to those without insurance.
This was an incredible learning experience for all of the volunteers, which included students from the schools of Public Health, Law, Pharmacy, and Medicine. Thank you to the SKCC for allowing us to partner with you, and a special shoutout to our faculty advisor Dr. Norm Beauchamp, who was one of the key people in making this incredible event come to life!
